Della Darlene Foster (nee Polk) , 78, of Surrey BC passed away on November 10th of cancer. Darlene was born January 22nd, 1946 in Chatham, Ontario. She was the oldest daughter of Chemainus Lyal Polk and Orpha Willena Polk (nee Selby).
Darlene grew up in the Bridgeview area of Surrey. She married George Mitzel, and had three children. Shirley, Michael, and Bonny. Her second marriage was to Al Foster, with whom she traveled extensively. Darlene worked for CP Air, Canadian Airlines, and Air Canada before she retired. Darlene loved bowling and coaching youth bowling. Her mother was also a bowler, and they passed on that love to Darlene's children and some of her grandchildren. Darlene was an avid reader, and instilled that love in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
As she grew older, Darlene played tournament 10 card crib and attended a knitting club every week. She also loved to crochet while watching her beloved Vancouver Canucks and BC Lions. Darlene gave the best hugs. She was fiercely independent, so giving, and so strong. She loved to help in whatever way she could. We all leaned on her, and learned to be strong like her. She could light up a room with her smile and she never met a stranger.
Darlene is survived by her daughter Bonny, grandchildren Katrina, Arielle, Justin, Kristie, Brock and Matthew and Kaylee and great grandchildren, and by her brother Bill and extended family Deanie, Rose, Julie, Kari and their children. Darlene is predeceased by her children Shirley and Michael, her parents Lyal and Willie, and her siblings Wayne and Jackie.
A memorial service for Darlene will be held Friday, November 29, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at First Memorial Funeral Services, Fraser Heights Chapel, 14835 Fraser Highway, Surrey, BC V3R3N6.
