It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Chris Elizabeth Barber, after a struggle with ALS.
Chris is survived by her spouse Fred Weiher, a son James, and 2 sisters Janice and Alison. She was predeceased by her parents, a brother and sister.
Chris was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England on July 21st, 1949. She spent her early years in England but immigrated to Canada in her early 20’s. She attended Leeds Teachers’ College in England then later the University of California, San Diego where she earned a Masters degree in Education. She initially taught in Soda Creek, B.C., transferring to Surrey School District where she taught at various schools. After 30+ years teaching in Surrey, she retired from her E.S.L. position at Creekside Elementary.
Chris was a unique person - brilliant, funny, loving, a devoted friend to many, physically active, and environmentally and politically conscious. She was an avid traveler who enjoyed learning from her global experiences. She also consistently supported and participated in the arts throughout her adulthood and donated to countless charities - too many to name.
Chris will be sorely missed by her family and dear friends.
