Brian “Jeffrey” Babcock beloved son of Brian and Marilyn
Babcock passed away suddenly on May 7th in Surrey.
Joan, Jeff’s father’s partner shares in this mourning with
Jeff’s sister Kelly, brother-in-law Bassam and nephew
M H.
Jeff was a full of life guy who tried to help as many people
as he could. He was caring and supportive of the many
friends he had made over the years. Jeff wanted to make
each friendship grow by the nurturing of equal parts of love
and respect.
Jeff enjoyed his life fully and remained happy throughout
his working career. He never said a bad word about his
work and never shied away from some very unpopular
jobs. He would do the best he could.
After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts at UBC and excellent
references from his university professors, he was given
the opportunity to teach English to Chinese school kids
in Taiwan. Although he couldn’t speak Chinese at first, he
considered this a challenge and proceeded to help the
Chinese kids learn English while he learned Mandarin
Chinese. His love to communicate in any language was
shared and appreciated by many. He returned to Taiwan
wearing his black hat and holding his favourite guitar. He
often played English tunes to the children and thus raised
the bar on teaching English.
During this time, Jeff had decided to attend UBC Law. To
do this he had to study hard for his LSAT exam. Although
he was unsuccessful at achieving a high enough mark,
he returned to write another exam a few months later.
Ranked with one of the top marks, his next challenge
would take place at UBC where he was accepted into Law.
Jeff completed his degree in 2009 and he was fortunate to
obtain a legal position in Vancouver. Up until his death, he
bragged how he loved his job at Hughes Law Firm.
Had Jeff lived, we are sure he would have done great
things. This was partly due to his acquired academic
abilities but mainly due to being happy with his work, his
friends and with life. He always said he was the luckiest
person he knew and he knew a LOT of people.
Jeff will be missed by all that knew him. We love you,
Jeff.
In honour of Jeff, his friends have arranged a Wake at
the UBC Law building 7-2880 Westbrook Mall PSI UPSILON
Frat House on Thursday, May 13 evening at 7:00 pm.
If you would like to pay your respects to Jeff, he will be at

Surrey. Visitation times are Thursday, May 13 between 2
p.m. and 4 p.m. and Friday, May 14 between 4 p.m. and 5:30
