William “Bill” Summers, 84 of Surprise AZ, formerly of Boulder CO, passed away on Wednesday, December 1st, 2021. He was a man that defied the odds with his health and fought to the very end. He slipped away peacefully with his daughter, Bobbi, by his side. His faith and trust in God give comfort to those left behind.
Bill was Born in Chicago, IL on June 28th, 1937, to Alfred and PearleMae Summers.
He Joined the US army and served in the Korean War at age 17. He attended Purdue University. His career began as a commercial truck driver, he went on to manage fleets for several companies. He retired from Boulder County Road Maintenance as the Fleet and Resource Manager.
Bill married Carol (Harris) in 1987. He gained bonus children Bobbi & Lance Nielsen and Bill Harris & Lisa Bicknell. They were blessed with a bonus dad for 35 years. They were a family that loved him. He taught them, teased, and put up with them. He loved their mom dearly. He loved all of them unconditionally. He was an amazing caretaker of their mom Carol during her illness. She proceeded him in death.
Bill was blessed to have his girlfriend, Marlene Dehart, in his life the last 8 years. They traveled and loved each other dearly. Marlene was an angel on earth caring for him the last few years. Bill’s family is blessed to have her as family. Bill was blessed to have her children as part of his life as well. Mark and Pauline Dehart, Michelle and Peter Arellano, Andy and Carol Dehart, Mike and Liz DeHart.
Bill’s Daughter Dawn met him in heaven as she passed away in 2018. She has one child, Bill's granddaughter Felicia Kline. She and JD Kline have two children Leighton and Hudson. They were his great grandchildren, so loved by GG Bill.
Bill Had several “adopted” grand children, Lance and Mitchell Johnson, Garret and Mason Hershman Alex and Nate Nass, and Katie Bicknell. They all have such wonderful memories of the great times they had with him and of his love.
Bill was a member and served as the Grand Exalted Ruler of the Elks Longmont, CO #1055. He was a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church in Boulder. He was a member of Palm Desert Presbyterian Church in Sun City AZ, where he served as a Stephen Minister and Deacon. Bill was a founding member of the Kokopelli Court ROMEO club. A member of the American Legion. He was a rider and officer in the Sun City Power Riders club.
Bill had many hobbies and interests, He was a Licensed Pilot, he loved to fly. Bill was an avid boater and owned a houseboat at Lake Powell. He loved to water ski, swim and have his friends and family with him on these trips. He was an avid camper, owning RVs and travelling all over the United States with his wife, Carol. Most weekends they could be found at Carter Lake in Colorado. He traveled overseas and around the US with both Carol and Marlene. He loved to ride his motorcycle and belonged to riding clubs. He would tour the state and west coast with his Son-in-law Lance for weeklong trips. The wind therapy was one of his true loves. He Loved football, a faithful die-hard Bronco fan. Bill just loved football and watched so many teams. His son Bill Harris was blessed to be with him to watch a game with him a few weeks before he passed away.
He is preceded in Death by his parents, PearleMae and Alfred Summers, Stepfather Larry McCune, Wife Carol Summers, Sisters Bonnie and Ed Andrich, Barbara and Bob Clark, Son in Law Lance Nielsen, Daughter Dawn Knodel.
Bill lived life with gusto and passion. He was caring and told it like it was. He was fun loving and loved his family. His family has so many memories of the fun times. Those who knew him are all blessed to have had him as part of their lives. He was Loved by so many and a true gentleman.
