Edward was a loving, caring, and thoughtful husband, father, brother, and uncle. He is survived by sons Craig Kovack of Seagrove, North Carolina, and Brian Kovack of Buckeye, Arizona.
During his developing years in Barberton, Ed was known not to back down from anyone, or show any fear. He often would sport a “shiner” due to disagreements other classmates. His sister Arlene would often complain she couldn’t date because they feared her brother “Eddie”.
Edward was active in the Boy Scouts of America and attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
Upon graduation from Barberton High School in 1947, Edward joined the Army to serve his country. He reached the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged on January 23rd, 1953.
Edward continued to serve his country in the Ohio National Guard, reaching the rank of Captain. He was honorably discharged from the National Guard on November 29th, 1965.
Edward married Maryann Habick (died January 28th, 2000) on June 16th, 1956. They bought a house in Akron, Ohio where their 2 sons were born. Brian Edward Kovack on August 23rd, 1958, and Craig Steven Kovack on May 17th, 1960.
In 1966, the family added their treasured family dog which Ed named “Lumpy”. “Lumpy” was a pure-bred standard poodle and who like Ed in his youth, was fearless and often got into fights with other dogs. He lived with the family for 19 years.
Edward Kovack was an outstanding salesman. His personality and whit drew people to him. He started in retail at the North End Service Center in Barberton. As he reached his mid-20’s he also worked for Tiffin Candies, and the Buckeye Biscuit Company.
Ed went to work for The Diamond Cement Company in 1968. In 1969, the family moved to Wooster, Ohio. In 1971, The Diamond Cement Company was purchased, and the Ohio location was closed.
He interviewed and accepted a position with Wooster Brush in 1972. His skill as a salesman was immediately noticed and he was given the Illinois territory. The family moved to Aurora, Illinois in 1973.
Edward received many awards for his efforts. He turned the meager Illinois territory into a multi-million-dollar revenue generator for the company. He retired in 1997.
When the company was contacted about his death 26 years later, many still remembered his infectious sense of humor and personality.
Though he has passed, Ed will always be remembered on our hearts.
