Deborah (Mom) – Was born on November 23rd, 1953 in the Bronx, NY to Ruben and Margaret Montalvo. Deborah was the oldest of 3 siblings: sister Linda and brother Ray. She grew up in Bay Shore, Long Island, NY and attended Islip High School where she graduated with the class of 1973. She was known as “Debbie” to her family and close friends. Debbie was a woman full of life and often would be teased by her grandmother for late nights with friends and being sort of a party animal in her youth. She loved to dance and held family close.
Robert (Dad) – Was born on April 13th, 1954 in Rockville Centre, NY to Samuel and Eileen Terry (Staab). Robert was the youngest of 2 siblings, sister Nancy. He grew up in Babylon, Long Island, NY and attended North Babylon High School where he graduated with the class of 1972. He was known as “Bobby” to family and “Bob” to close friends. Bob was a man who enjoyed the outdoors often camping and going to the beach with friends. He loved loud music, motorcycles and building things with his hands.
Debbie and Bob met in 1974 on the shores of Long Island, NY where they found a common love for life through Disco Music and 70’s Clubs. With platform shoes, bell bottom jeans and laser lights, they danced till morning light and lived what others watched in the Saturday Night Fever film. They fell in love under the disco ball. They danced through the 70’s and into their wedding on May 13th, 1978 at Saint Patrick’s Church in Bay Shore, NY.
The two would move from NY to NJ for a few years until they brought their first son, Nicholas into the world in June of 1981. Soon after, the new family of three along with the family dog Muffin would move back to Dad’s childhood home in Babylon. It was here that they learned to become parents and began making the long-lasting memories of my childhood. Sailing became a way of life on Long Island’s Great South Bay with many trips to the beaches and BBQs on the dock. Six years later, in May of 1987, we became a foursome when their second son, Daniel was born. The joy of a second son to our parents was something I remember fondly. Our family of four continued making memories with yearly vacations to places like Sesame Place, Hersey Park, Great Adventure, Disney World, and occasionally Arizona. Summers at the beach with Mom were routine and the sailboat would soon become a motorcycle after Dad took a ride on an old friend’s Harley. From that point on, motorcycling became a staple in the Terry household.
Robert, a Union Plumber after his father and Deborah, a Teacher’s Aid to work with children, would take their motorcycle on many adventures throughout their marriage. Rallies such as Laconia, Daytona and even Sturgis were something they enjoyed for many years. Ride or die wasn’t just a saying, it was a way of life for the two of them. A life that would continue to grow as they explored new highways along their journey. As my brother and I got older, moved out, got married and had kids of our own, Mom and Dad became Grandma & Grandpa. They loved being around our children and shared many laughs over family get togethers and backyard BBQ’s. Those bonds created between their grandchildren will last for lifetimes to come.
In 2015, they retired and decided to move to Arizona. A place where they could have adventures and is known for all year long riding weather. In retirement, they spent more time with extended family, took
trips to places they had never been like Hawaii and even pretended to be cowboys from the old west down in Tombstone. They rode up to the redwoods in Northern CA and even became officers in the local H.O.G. Chapter.
Robert and Deborah lived an entire life of fun times, laughter, and fulfilment. They spent 44 years married and were almost never apart since the day they met. Even now, passing from this world, they left together. They will continue their ride for eternity. The sun at their face, the wind in their hair and I’m sure, following the highway with smiles on their faces. They leave behind their memory. Through their children, their grandchildren, and those that loved them along the way, their story will continue to live on. May they rest in peace as they move onto the next life knowing we will forever miss them.
Robert & Deborah is survived by their son Nick Terry (Cheryl); and their son Dan Terry (Karen). Also their grandchildren Kylie, Colin, Jaylen and Christian; who they loved greatly.
Robert is also survived by his mother Eileen Staab and his sister Nancy Filingeri. Deborah by her sister Linda Cruz and Brother Ray Montalvo.
