Ralph was born on July 1, 1926 in Dagus Mines, Pennsylvania to Harry and Laura Sandberg. Ralph was the second oldest of six children. He attended a one room school in his early education. Ralph joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 serving aboard the U.S.S. Anderson DD-411 where he spent the majority of his enlistment in the South Pacific.
After leaving the military, Ralph moved to Cleveland, Ohio and worked for Tapco Industries. He was introduced to his wife Jean by his sister Norma. It just so happens that Jean was also employed by Tapco Industries.
Ralph married Jean Pauline Mellon on May 5, 1956 at the First Presbyterian Church in Willoughby, Ohio. Over the years, they lived in Willoughby, Ohio, Titusville, Florida, Sun City West, Arizona and Peoria, Arizona.
Ralph was always active in his church, serving as a Deacon. He was an avid reader who enjoyed reading about politics, history and the military. Ralph will be fondly remembered for his love of family, travel, hiking, hunting and fishing.
Ralph’s wife Jean preceded him in death in May of 2013. He is survived by his three sons: Eric, Kurt and Paul; daughter-in-law Deb, and grandchildren Laura and Kirsten.
