Dorothy Buranich, age 97, received her angel wings on April 5, 2022. She passed peacefully at her home. Many of her close friends at Wooddale Apartments of Sun City, preceded her passing. After many falls at Wooddale, she moved her residency to her son’s and daughter-n-laws home, in Glendale Az in 2019.
Dorothy was the seventh child of Michael and Mary Hovanec’s eight children in Campbell Ohio. Born paternal twin, Dorothy was the last surviving sibling. This sadden her deeply. Dorothy attended the former St. Elizabeth’s parochial School and Church in Campbell Ohio. She was honored to be the May Queen crowning the Virgin Mary’s statue. Dorothy attended Campbell Memorial High School and graduated in 1942.
Dorothy met Louis J. Buranich Jr., at the Polish Dance Hall in Youngstown, Ohio. They wed in August 1947. Louis had just finished serving his country in the Navy, serving as the ship’s cook in the South Pacific theater. Louis Jr., was the youngest son of (6) six siblings. Louis preceded Dorothy, passing in 2002, having celebrated 55 years of marriage.
Louis retired from the Youngstown Ohio Police Department as a sergeant, in 1983. Dorothy and Louis moved to Phoenix Arizona in 1983, to be with their two sons, Thomas (Marilyn) and Louis III (Vickie). Dorothy loved to bake Slovenian Cookies and Kolace at Christmas and Easter seasons. She leaves five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Her soft touch and presence will be missed by all. She was a good listener and always made you fill comfortable knowing her.
Dorothy was proud to be a member of both the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Union (FCSLA) and the First Catholic Slovak Union (FCSU). Dorothy and Louis were members of St. Christine’s Catholic Church in Youngstown Ohio. She has been a member of St. Clements of Rome Catholic Church in Sun City since 1983.
