Constance (Connie) D'Ambrosio Steele Young of Peoria, Arizona passed away quickly and quietly November 30, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 82. She lived a long, happy, and adventurous life loving the company of her friends, family and the Church.
Born on October 19, 1932 at home in the small town of Amador City, California, she was raised by her parents, Eugene D’Ambrosio and Edna Webb. They later moved to Oakland, California where she graduated from high school, enjoying theater and dance. After a short time of working at the Bank of America, she began nursing studies at the Sacramento Junior College School of Nursing. At a spring dance she met her first husband, Thomas C. Steele who was in the Air Force. After graduation she joined him in France where they started their family of three children. They traveled and moved their household and family many times as part of military life, living in California, Alabama, Virginia, South Carolina, England and one more tour in France.
Connie was very involved in her community and Church wherever she lived. Her nursing career spanned many decades and she held licenses in South Carolina, Georgia and Arizona. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Georgia State University in the early 70s and started a fresh career in public relations for the Georgia Nursing Home Industry and the Dekalb County Chamber of Commerce.
After her first husband died in 1977, she was introduced to life in Sun City, Arizona, where she has lived for over 20 years. There she served as a columnist and writer for the Daily News-Sun for many years. Following that she served as a nurse until the age of 75 at nursing homes in the area. While living in Arizona she met William D. Young who she married in 1991. They built a happy life together in Sun City together and just recently moved to Peoria, Arizona.
A large part of her life was spent staying active with the Presbyterian Women at Faith Presbyterian Church, as well as writing, gardening, studying family genealogy, lawn bowling, golf, playing a fierce game of bridge and enjoying many happy outings with her sisters in the Red Hat Club. And she always loved dancing and travelling with her husband Bill.
Connie will be missed for her caring and sharing of her smiles. She is survived by her husband, William D. Young, her children and step-children, Thomas C. Steele (Ani), Howard E.
