Norma Lewis, 87, was called to her eternal home on Tuesday, October 1, 2013. She died at the home of her oldest daughter, surrounded by her family. Norma was born the only child of Clifford and Victoria Guidry on January 20, 1926 in Sulphur. She married Grant Lewis on May 4, 1946. They raised their family in Sulphur at 504 W Verdine, two blocks from where she grew up. She worked at Cal Cam Hospital for more than 30 years in medical records.
Norma was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. She was a St. Theresa of the Little Flower Lay Carmelite, a member of Catholic Daughters Court #1255, Young at Heart, and the Serran Club. She sang in the church choir from the young age of 13 well into her 70’s. Norma loved to travel and saw the world with many of her friends. She loved helping people and was always an aid for those in need.
Left to cherish Norma’s memories are three daughters, Susan Broussard and her husband Lennie of Carlyss, Teresa Fuselier and her husband Elwin of Moss Bluff, Cassy Ackel and her husband Mike of Monroe.
She was known as Meme to 8 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Her grandchildren are Dana Richard and husband Lee Lee, Damon Broussard and wife Cathy, Cassy West and husband Jamie, Wendy Williamson and husband Tim, John Wing, Shelly Ackel, David Ackel and wife Amanda, and Lance Lewis.
Norma also leaves behind some very special friends whom she loved dearly.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Grant, her only son Matthew Lewis, her daughter-in-law JoLynn Acardo Lewis, half-brother Walter LeBlanc, and half-sister Mildred Grigsby.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 5 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. The Rev. Edward Richard will officiate. Interment will follow at Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. Visitation will be held in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home from 4–9 p.m. on Friday. There will be prayers by Lay Carmelites at 6pm on Friday with a Cursillo rosary to follow, ACTS Community will lift her up in song. Visitation will resume at 8 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Norma requested that Mike her yard man and friend of many years be her honorary pallbearer. Also pallbearers will be Lennie Broussard, Mike Ackel, Elwin Fuselier, John Wing, Lee Richard, Damon Broussard, Lance Lewis and David Ackel.
