She was born on November 25, 1940 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the second of three children, a sister Donice and a brother Phillip, born to Helen and Curtis Boydston. Linda moved to Maplewood, LA at the age of eight, she attended Maplewood Middle School, Sulphur High School, and McNeese State University. She made Maplewood her home for her entire life except for a brief period, while her husband served in the U.S. Army. One of her favorite tours of duty with her husband was the three years they lived in Germany. Linda returned to Sulphur when Don was sent to Vietnam.
Linda and her sister, Donice, spent many of their young years portraying their hopes and desires when they were older-Linda as a secretary and Donice as a teacher, a goal reached by both.
Linda met the love of her life, Don, during her freshman year at Sulphur High School. From their first date four months into her freshman year, Linda knew Don was the man she wanted to marry and a year and a half after graduating, they were married. Don was always Linda's best friend and they were married for 58 years. They were proud parents of Michael Wayne and wife Harriet, and Matthew Scott and wife, Pam. She was also blessed with five grandchildren Brittany Beeson and husband, Adam, Nicholle Hoffman and husband, Brandon, Brock, Naomi and a very special grandson, Nathan, who lived with her and Don the last eleven years of her life. Nathan never missed an opportunity to massage her neck and back whenever it was required. Linda is also survived by her great-grandson, Tucker Dewey Beeson of Baton Rouge.
Linda was an active member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church serving in many capacities during her 60+ years as a member. She sang in the choir during her entire membership, taught Church School, served as Youth Group Director, Alter Guild, Licensed Eucharistic Minister, Daughters of the King, numerous times on the Vestry and three terms as Sr. Warden under three different rectors. Linda loved her church and felt her church family was one her main support systems. Linda served as the first female President of the Krewe of Cosmos in which she and Don were King and Queen. She was a member of XI Delta Mu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi for over 40 years, serving in all offices at one time or another throughout her membership.
Linda was the first employee of the then, Gulf Coast Aluminum Corporation, which later became Reynolds Metals Company and finally Alcoa. She very happily worked at the plant for 35 years, serving as Executive Secretary to seven different plant managers. She acquired her Notary license in order to act as a Notary Public for her job and retired as Customer Sales Manager and Traffic Coordinator.
In addition to being survived by her husband, Don, children, grandchildren and great grandson, she is also survived by her Don was always Linda's best friend and they were married for 58 years. They were proud parents of Michael Wayne and wife Harriet, and Matthew Scott and wife, Pam. Her memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on Tuesday, June 20th, beginning at 1:00pm and will be followed by visitation in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, Linda requests that contributions be made to Holy Trinity or to a cancer charity of your choice. The family will be cared for by Hixon-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
