James was a native of Baird, Tx., and lived in Sulphur since 1944. He attended Maplewood First Baptist Church. He graduated from Sulphur High School, attended LSU, and graduated from McNeese State in 1962. He Proudly served in the US Marine Corps and was a life member of the Third Marine Division Association. He retired as the Regional Director of Probation and Parole for the State of Louisiana Department of Corrections.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years Marietta Spees Woodley of Sulphur; children James "Jay" Adrian Woodley and his wife Cheryl of Sulphur, Jennifer Woodley Campagna and her husband Steve of Sulphur, and Matthew Edward Woodley and his wife Angela of Sulphur; sister Myra Woodley Nunnally and her husband Dent of Sulphur; grandchildren Nicholas Woodley, Zachary Woodley, Sarah Woodley, Jackson Woodley, Emily Woodley, Annabelle Woodley, Marietta Campagna, and Christian Campagna; step Granddaughter Adrianne Ferguson and her husband John; and step great grandchildren Daniel Cavanaugh and Evan Ruh.
He is preceded in death by his parents James Monroe Woodley, Sr., and Mildred Bell Woodley.
Pallbearers will be Nicholas Woodley, Zachary Woodley, Jackson Woodley, Steve Campagna, Jason Draper and Andrew Nunnally.
Honorary pallbearer will be Christian James Campagna.
The family wishes to extend thanks to Leroy Fredricks, MD, and the Oncology Staff of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital; Jose' Gonzales, MD, and Brian Stewart, MD, at the Family Practice Clinic of Sulphur for the loving care of our loved one; and our sincere appreciation to Heart of Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 23, in the First Baptist Church of Maplewood. The Rev. Ronnie Burke will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
