He was a native of Lake Charles and had been a longtime resident of Sulphur. Jimmy was the former owner and operator of Richard's Boudin and Seafood and had also started The Boudin Kitchen. He had also worked as a commercial fisherman for many years. He enjoyed deer hunting, dancing, and especially enjoyed cooking. Jimmy had a fun-loving spirit and loved playing practical jokes on his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen "Mae" Richard and her children, Troy Duhon and James "Bub" Duhon, both of Lake Charles, her grandchildren, Trey Duhon, Lakeyn Dupre, Coby Stewart, Madison Duhon, and Conner Duhon, and her three great-grandchildren; his daughter, Shannon Richard Ashworth and husband, Louis of Sulphur; his siblings, Raymond Richard, Gayla Sue Hebert and husband, Benny, and Jerry Richard and wife, Pearl, all of Moss Bluff, and Ronnie Richard and wife, Mary and Randy Richard and wife, Melissa, all of Sulphur; his grandchildren, Clinton Bertrand, Christopher Bertrand, and Destinee Smith; and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife of 54 years, Juanita Hollier Richard; his parents, Edmond Richard and Dorothy Lou Leger Richard; a daughter, Cyndi Richard Pratt; and siblings, Patsy McDaniel and David Richard.
A Celebration of James' Life will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, February 8, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeffrey Starkovich will officiate.
