Jimmy was a native of Sulphur, Louisiana and a graduate of Sulphur High School. He was in the United States Navy for 13 years; retired in October, 2001 from Lyondell Chemical at the former Olin Chemical site and a 32nd degree Mason. He was a devoted caretaker for his wife, Patricia following her illness 14 years ago. He was a parishioner of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Carlyss, Louisiana.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Patricia Baril Fontenot; one daughter, Rhonda Fontenot; four sons, David Wayne Fontenot, Michael James Fontenot all of Sulphur, Matthew Fontenot of Texas, Mark Fontenot of Marlton, New Jersey; three sisters, Norma Louise (Harold) Breaux of Scott, Louisiana, Nancy (Huey) Spell of Carlyss, Louisiana, Mary Catherine “Cathy” (Frank) Hughes of The Woodlands, Texas; one brother, Douglas (Stephenie) Fontenot of Carlyss, Louisiana; sister-in-law, Rachel Triemert of Stillwater, Minnesota; brother-in-law Richard (Jan) Baril of Casselberry, Florida; aunts, Effie Fontenot of Lake Charles, LA; Marjorie (Henry) Ellender of Sulphur, LA; uncle, Norbert Paul (Pat) Vincent of Baton Rouge, LA; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Thelma Fontenot; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leo and Francoise Baril.
A mass of Christian burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30th at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Carlyss, Louisiana. Father Joseph Aquino will officiate. Interment will follow at Mimosa Pines in Carlyss, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you donate to the charity of your choice.
