David Gene Hoppes, 85, died Friday, January 30, 2015, in Sulphur.He was a native of Longton, Kansas and had been a resident of Sulphur since 1978. David was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Fenix & Scisson after many years as a drilling consultant. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed his daily workouts, but for David, his family was the most important part of his life. He will be remembered for his integrity, honesty, patience, and his fun and witty nature. Suvivors include his children, Margo Hoppes of Moss Bluff and Lisa McComb and husband, Mike of Sulphur; his siblings, Judy LeClair of Hutchinson, Kansas, Gary Hoppes of Larned, Kansas, and Ron Hoppes and wife, Janice of Hutchinson, Kansas; grandchildren, Shane Johnson and wife, Nicky of Merryville, Dave Johnson and wife, Rachel of Lake Charles; great-grandchildren, Justen, Aric, and Taylor; nieces, Rhonda and Michael Brennan of Monument, Colorado, and Donna and Phil Pettay of Tullahoma, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews; and his companion, Susan Selman of Moss Bluff. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Evadith Hoppes; his parents; two brothers; and one sister.A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, in Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Estess will officiate. Visition will be held on Monday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8-9:30 a.m. all in the funeral home.
