She was a native of Vivian, Louisiana and had been a resident of Sulphur for the last 46 years. She was a member of Maplewood United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the Calcasieu Chapter of the D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution). She was the spiritual leader of the family and exemplified God’s teachings in her everyday life. Mrs. Allen taught in the Calcasieu Parish School System for 30 years and upon her retirement, she volunteered as a Pink Lady with West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital. In her spare time she loved reading and watching Broadway Musicals. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Phillip Ray Allen and wife, Leslie of Sulphur and Karen Allen Allison of Sulphur; four grandchildren, Lindsey Allison, Dr. Emily Todd, Stephen Allen, and Phillip Allen; and her great-grandchildren, Jacob Grant, Avery Todd, and Henry Todd.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Allen.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, January 22, in Maplewood Methodist Church. The Rev. Craig Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 4-6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday in the church.
