Sharon Kay Darnell Hammond, our mother, was born January 23, 1947 and passed from this life on January 18, 2016. She was born to Randolph Arnold Darnell and Mildred Earlene Renfro on January 23, 1947 in Dallas, Texas, the third of three children. Her sisters, Norma Jean McCoin of Afton, OK and Linda Delores Lenihan of Marietta, GA, and two of her three children, Kevin Lynn Hammond of Carmel, Indiana and Korey Alysha Duran of Bellville, TX, survive her. Her parents and her youngest child, Kimberly Cristin Hammond, preceded her in death.
Sharon was born in Dallas, but grew up in Phillips, TX. During her junior year in high school, she moved with her family to Bartlesville, OK. She liked to say that she was kidnapped and held captive in Oklahoma for 22 years. She married Roger Clayton Hammond in February of 1968 and started working for Shell Oil later that year, beginning a more than forty-year career with the company. She started in the credit card division as a customer service representative. As the industry became more computerized, she studied Management Information Systems, receiving her degree from Tulsa University in 1988. From there, she transferred to Houston and worked in the computing division, supporting systems until her retirement in 2011.
Sharon was blessed with five grandchildren, Kayla Nicole Duran, Duncan Fenner Hammond, Maxwell Logan Hammond, Kara Ashlynn Duran, and Ian Quinn Hammond. Her nephew Randy Trimble and niece, Erin Lenihan Larkin, also survive her.
We would like to thank her wonderful caregivers, Debbie, Jennie, Sandra, and all the others that helped her enjoy her life these past 12 months. We are eternally grateful for the care you showed our mother.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, Friday, January 22, 2016 at Settegast-Kopf & Company Funeral Directors, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas 77478.
