Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Smith (née Crysel) passed away surrounded by family on September 11, 2018 at the age of 76. Beth was born on July 6, 1942 in Richland Parish, Louisiana. Beth was the daughter of Edna (Koonce) Crysel and Willie Crysel. She is preceded in death by her brother, Walter Crysel and sisters, Myrteel McIntyre and Mary Anne Copelin, and son, Stevie. Beth is survived by her husband, Daniel Smith; daughter, Preeta Riggs, and her husband, Christopher; sons Jason Rayburn, and Walter Crysel; grandchildren, Colin Riggs, Cameron Riggs, Caitlyn Riggs, Jason Crysel, Elizabeth Crysel, Jarrid Crysel, and Katrina Rayburn. She also leaves her brother, Gayle Crysel, and her much-loved nieces and nephews. Beth grew up and attended school in Beaumont, Texas. As a young adult, she moved to Houston making a career in real estate and property management. She earned a reputation for being a tremendously hard worker, but also as someone who was always ready for fun. To those closest to her, Beth was known for her feisty, unbreakable spirit. Beth had a gift of gardening and could cultivate just about anything green and flowery. In her later years, she was constantly stopping to smell the roses. She loved sharing time with her grandchildren and was loyal and devoted to those she loved most. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at The Settegast-Kopf Company at Sugar Creek. Pastor David Kent will officiate the ceremony.
