Jo Ann Berryhill Fulmer, our precious mom and “Gram”, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 18, 2022.
Jo Ann was born May 23, 1937 in Gorman, Texas to Rev O Berryhill and Hazel Bibby Berryhill. She was ¼ Creek Indian. Her father was a traveling evangelist, Pentecostal Assembly of God preacher, and the family would move frequently when called to start a new church. Later, the family settled in Jackson, MS where Jo Ann attended Forest Hill High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Joe Jeff Fulmer. They had 3 children and raised their family in Houston, Texas and later Sugar Land, Texas, where Jo Ann spent the last 58 years of her life.
She was a stay at home mom, and the first to volunteer as a room mother for each of her children. During the last 13 years of her life, she was richly blessed with 3 precious grandchildren. They brought her so much joy; spending time with them was a highlight of her life.
Jo Ann was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic pancreatic cancer in September 2016. She never had surgery to remove the cancer, and had just completed her 118th chemo infusion at MD Anderson. So many had prayed over her, and God put his hand on her and stopped the pancreatic cancer from growing. She was a miracle, and she made a commitment to the Lord to share her testimony of what God was doing for her so that His name was glorified in the Son. If she was in line at the store, she would turn to you and say, “Can I tell you my story?”, and when she finished, you knew she had been healed. You could hear the joy in her voice when she shared Jesus.
Jo Ann was a born again Christian, a member of Houston’s First Baptist Church, and attended the Crown class for many years. She spent the last 20 years worshipping at Sugar Creek Baptist Church. She gave her heart to Jesus when she was ten years old. She loved to hum and sing hymns, and would spend hours outside working in her flower garden. She was very creative. In her earlier years, she spent time painting with acrylics. She was always writing a poem about her trips and life experiences. She loved to travel and always looked forward to her “next” trip with her daughter. She was always finding a lucky penny, and then would spot the sign of the cross in the most unique places. Jo Ann was a selfless giver; she put everyone else’s needs before her own. Her first love was God, then her family and friends. She lived what she believed and will be missed terribly, but we know that we walk by faith, not by sight. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:6-8
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, sister Patsy Pope, brother Charles Berryhill, and her husband Joe Jeff Fulmer. She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Jeffrie Fulmer-Thomas and her husband Terry of Sugar Land, TX; her loving sons, Jeff B. Fulmer of Richmond, Texas; and Joe B. Fulmer and his wife Missy of Richmond, TX. Also, her 3 adorable grandchildren, Brian, Andy and Audrey Fulmer. Sisters in law, Joanne Day of Baton Rouge, LA and Betty Jo Berryhill of Brandon, MS. In addition, her Aunt Ima Jo Bailey of Cleburne, TX and niece Marcella Martin of Van Cleave, MS, both of whom prayed daily for her. And many more cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.
