Jim Hooter Merrill, Jr. passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024, in Sugar Land, TX. Born on March 4, 1969, in Hollandale, MS.
Jim’s life was characterized by his vibrant personality and his passion for making those around him smile. Known as the life of the party, his humor and warmth drew people close, treating his friends as if they were family. Beyond his charismatic personality, Jim had a profound love for writing poetry, a talent through which he expressed his thoughtful and introspective nature.
A loyal supporter of the New Orleans Saints, Jim’s enthusiasm for his team was infectious. He enjoyed the loyal companionship of his two dogs, Jack and Molly, who were dear to his heart.
Jim leaves behind his cherished daughter, Amanda Vallee Merrill, who was the pride and joy of his life. He is also survived by his sisters, Kim Merrill Pirtle and her husband, Junior, and Kellie Merrill Boyette and her husband, Butch. His beloved ex-wife, Lori Vallee Merrill, Stepson William Travis Holt, mother-in-law Sharon Vallee Ginder, his dear friends and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins will fondly remember his spirited presence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara Ann and Jim Hooter Merrill, Sr., and a very special sister-in-law, Pamela Anne Houston.
Jim’s legacy of laughter and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His life was a testament to the power of positivity and the importance of family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at Glenwood Cemetery for family and close friends. Celebration of Life at Cadillac Bar 1802 Shepherd Dr, Houston, TX 77007 at 5:30 Saturday, October 12.
