David Lawrence Beard, 84, passed away on Sept. 15, 2011 after a long illness. David was born on September 10, 1927 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Captoria Lowery Beard and David V. Beard. David dropped out of high school to enlist in the Navy during World War II and served in the Philippines at the end of the war. David returned and not only completed High School, but put himself through college by working as a miner in Colorado, and ultimately received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a Petroleum Option from Oklahoma State University. David married Sharon L. Jackson on September 24, 1962 in Las Vegas, NV and they remained partners for 49 years until his death. During his career, David worked around the world as a Drilling Engineer for multiple companies and as a private contractor. David is survived by his wife Sharon of Sugar Land, TX, his daughter Frances Duron (Manuel Duron) of Austin, TX, his son Carl Beard (Robin Beard) of Santa Fe, NM, and his grand-daughters Yolanda Duron of Claremont, CA, Ysabela Duron of Austin, TX, Jenna Brown of Lubbock, TX, and Natalie Brown of Austin, TX. Memorial services will be held at 2-4pm on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 at The Settegast-Kopf Co. funeral home at 15015 SW Freeway, Sugar Land, TX and funeral services will be held in Needles, CA on Oct. 1 at the Riverview Cemetery.
