Charlie was a graduate of Broken Arrow High School before pursuing his higher education at Oklahoma State University. There, he received his Bachelor's in Turf Management. It should be no surprise the Harper’s lawn always looked immaculate!
Charlie spent 7 years playing for the New York Giants in the NFL, as an offensive guard and tackle. For 40 years with State Farm Insurance, he was a dedicated manager and agent. He was an avid member of the Sugar Land Baptist Church and commissioned as a Stephen Minister there.
Charlie had many passions in his life, but his ultimate joy was making sure everyone who he came in contact with, knew about Jesus and how to accept Him as their Lord and Savior. He received great comfort in handing out scripture verses to others, especially at MD Anderson as well as the many other medical facilities and offices that he frequented. Charlie cherished his time in Bible study; it was a very important part of his daily life. Charlie adored spending time with his three grandchildren, who are his pride and joy. He also kindled a special love for golf, and more golf! He was once a caddy for Tom Weiskopf during a PGA Tournament in Oklahoma, and was Club Champion at Cedar Ridge CC in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in 1978. Charlie really enjoyed fishing, and it gave him pleasure to make his own lures for his fishing outings with his friends. He also got a thrill out of being creative by adapting golf equipment for his friends and himself in attempts to lower their scores. The fellowship with all his golf buddies over time was very special to him.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Linda Sue Lawhorn Harper. His son Matthew L. Harper (Diana M.), his grandchildren Riley, Reese and Eli. His brother Mike Harper (Kathy), nephew Mike Harper (Leah), niece Andrea Dolina (Corey). His nephews Stephen Hays (Toni), and Walter Hays (Carol), and his niece June Ann Hammerle (Bill).
Charlie was preceded in death by his son Scott Ryan Harper; and his parents Otis and Bertha Harper.
A memorial service for Charlie will be held Monday, October 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Sugar Land Baptist Church, 16755 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77479, followed by a reception in the Trinity Reception Hall.
