He was 71 years old. Carl was born to Carl Buford Jr. and Marjorie Jean and grew up in Comanche, Oklahoma. He was a loving and protective older brother of sisters Deborah and Susan and brother Edward. Carl obtained his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State and worked for oil and gas companies throughout his career. His work brought him to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where he met the love of his life Debra. Carl and his family moved to Sugar Land, TX in 1994 where he lived for the remainder of his life.
Carl had many passions. He acquired a passion for hunting, fishing, and golfing from his father C.B. He loved dogs, especially his beloved Brittany Spaniels Penny, Ginny, and Ginger. Later in life he developed a surprising affection for cats and became a “cat dad” to four sweet cats. He loved talking with people and never met a stranger. He had great curiosity about science and history and was a life-long learner. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his prized fruits and vegetables with family and friends. Later in life he embraced a plant-based diet and enthusiastically told anyone who would listen about its health benefits out of concern for their well-being. His most important passion and source of pride was family, and he relished every moment with them.
He leaves behind his wife Debra, son Daniel, daughter Elizabeth, daughter-in-law Sheree, son-in-law Ben, dogs Ginger and Hiro, and cat Josie. A small family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
