Maureen Anne Sweeney

Maureen Anne Sweeney, age 78, passed away in Suffern, NY, on August 22, 2023. She was born in June 1945 in New York City to Charles and Beatrice Sweeney. Maureen was raised in Elmhurst, Queens. As a child she attended St. Bartholomew’s School and went on to attend St. Alphonsus Catholic High School. Her St. Bartholomew classmates fondly remember the reunions Maureen organized for the class of 1958.

Maureen's professional journey was marked by her dedication to the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. In retirement, she was a Eucharistic minister and active parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Suffern.

Maureen was known for her role as a personal historian, she never missed the birthdays and anniversaries of her loved ones. Her laughter was contagious, a testament to her ability to find joy in every moment.

She is survived by her younger sister Clare Kelly, and her brother-in-law, Michael Kelly; her nieces and nephews Kilian (Tricia), Christian and Carla Sweeney; Eileen (Matt) Gorman, Denise (Lucas) Kelly-Eberle, and Sheila Kelly. Also survived by grandnieces and grandnephews Caz and Charlie Sweeney, Maggie and Lucy Sweeney, Bridget Gorman, and Piper and Paige Kelly-Eberle.

Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Beatrice Sweeney, and her older brother, Charles "Buddy" Sweeney.

A wake will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 2 PM to 6 PM at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 NY-59, Suffern, NY 10901. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Monday, August 28, 2023, at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 129 Lafayette Avenue, Suffern, NY 10901. She will find her final rest at Calvary Cemetery, 49-02 Laurel Hill Boulevard, Woodside, NY 11377.
