Gary Allan Smith

Gary was born on July 15, 1952 in North Tonawanda, New York to George and Lola (Armagost) Smith. Gary grew up in the town of Lockport and is a Cum Laude graduate of Saginaw Valley State College. Gary began his career in 1978 as a Forman/General Forman then eventually becoming a Superintendent for S.J. Grove and Sons. During his time with S.J. Grove and Sons he worked on precast segmental bridges in Washington, Michigan, and worked on the Lock and Dam No. 26 on the Upper Mississippi River. Gary moved on to begin his 32+ year career with Kiewit Infrastructure Co. where he started out as an Ironworker, eventually transitioning into the Eastern District Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey office in the Estimating department as the subject matter expert on all things iron and steel. Gary had spent much of his early career “going where the work is” and had worked on various infrastructure projects spanning the east coast and beyond. Most recently, he jumped back into the field to support the successful I-40 Emergency Bridge Repair project in Memphis, Tennessee. Gary was passionate about his work and always wanted to share his knowledge (and jokes) amongst his colleagues.

Gary was also an active member and Elder at Ramapo Reformed Church in Mahwah, New Jersey.

Gary is survived by his wife of 30 years, Yon (Kwak) Smith and their four children: Scott Smith, Sarah Echevarria, Christina Cicen, and Ian (Sheila) Smith. Also surviving are his three grandchildren Brody, Jade, and Rosie; his father George Smith, and sisters Gail Smith, Ruth (Kenneth) VanDick, and Lori Martin. Gary is predeceased by his mother Lola (Armagost) Smith and his brother Glenn Smith.

Gary was an amazing husband, father, brother, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed for his sarcasm, knowledge, and generosity.
