WINDLE, William W., 82, Jan. 3, 2011 of Chestnut Hill, Mass. His father, "Wee Willie" Windle, of Millbury, was world champion on the high wheel bicycle in the 1890's. Attended Deerfield Academy, Williams College, Harvard's Advanced Management Program and the Orvis School of Fly Fishing. In addition to a career in investments, mostly at Kidder Peabody, past ventures included joint ownership of Chateau Montlabert in Saint-Émilion. Loyal and enthusiastic supporter of Deerfield, receiving the C. Alice Baker Award, and of Williams, where he rode his father's high wheel bicycle in reunion parades. Honorary Trustee of Simmons College and served on the Chairman's Council of the Trustees of Reservations. Served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Married Sally Smith Trainer in 1961, with whom he loved to entertain, in Brookline and South Dartmouth, and raised Hope, Penny and Lilly until her death in 1978. Then married Fabia Frenning Closson (Fay), each of them bringing three children, a dog and a station wagon to a wonderful marriage filled with love and fortified by many dear friends. They traveled intrepidly and constantly, fishing and golfing in every corner of the globe. Fay died June 23, 2009 and Bill died January 3, 2010, of a broken heart. He is survived by his sister Joy Hoffman, of Blue Hill, ME, his daughters Hope H. Windle of Rosendale, NY, Penny Windle Kline of Brooklyn Heights, NY and Lilly F.D. Windle of Portland, OR, his step-children Addison W. Closson, III of Portsmouth, RI, Lawrence F. Closson of Eliot, ME, and Fabia B. Closson of Chapel Hill, NC and the grands Elizabeth, Benjamin, Salvador, Milo, Lila and Stara. A celebration of his life will occur on March 5 at 11:00 a.m., Church of the Redeemer, 379 Hammond Street, Chestnut Hill, 02467.
