She is survived by her children and their spouses, James H. Dickson and his wife LorieAnn of Franklin, Mary Beth Pennor and her husband Richard of So. Easton, and Jennifer A. Porter and her husband William of Hanover; grandchildren Amanda and Thomas Dickson of Franklin, Clark and Kendra Pennor of So. Easton, and Billy, Owen, Sean, and Ryan Porter of Hanover; as well as her sisters, Ruth Shields of Davenport, FL, and Joyce Coughlin of Westford, MA. She is predeceased by siblings Charlotte Weaving of Wayne, NJ and James P. Baudreau of Raleigh, NC.
Born in Medford, MA, she lived in Arlington, MA, but later moved to Maynard, MA. She attended Saint Michael’s Academy in Hudson, MA and graduated in 1952. She then attended Wyndham Secretarial School in Boston, MA. In 1960, she moved to Sudbury when she and H. Stewart Dickson were married. She worked as an office manager for Dr. Henry Childs in Maynard, MA and later worked for General Medical Associates in Waltham and Brookline. She retired in the mid-1990s. She then moved to Bridgewater in 2000, and later to Middleboro in 2005, where she resided until her death.
Mary Lou was very involved as a leader or committee member, for and around Sudbury, including Campfire Girls, Sudbury Youth Soccer referee, Cub Scouts, Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Royal Jades Marching Band, Sudbury Town Hall, and the Highway Department. She loved the ocean and enjoyed her annual trips to both York Beach, Maine and the island of Aruba. She loved travelling, especially with her siblings on a Panama Canal Cruise and to Germany for an annual festival. She travelled to Iceland with her childhood friend for a glacier tour, attended bullfights in Mexico, and enjoyed horseback riding in the Adirondack Mountains. She also took part in activities such as canoeing, kayaking, tennis, golf, camping, hiking, and swimming. Her favorite movie was The Sound of Music, her favorite music was classical, and her favorite color was purple.
Funeral from the Duckett – J.S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Rd. (Rt. 20) SUDBURY on Mon. Sep. 8, at 8 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 160 Concord Rd. Sudbury at 9 o’clock. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 4-7 at the funeral home, relatives and friends are kindly invited.
