Born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Mary Barbara (Colona) and Ernest Franklin Bennett. Jim was the beloved husband of 54 years of Margaret “Peggy” (Lynch) Bennett of Sudbury, and the devoted father of Deborah and her husband Jose Goncalves of Hudson, and Mary Elizabeth and her husband Peter L. Swerdloff of Long Beach, CA. He was the proud grandfather of Elijah James and Johanna Loren Swerdloff, and Cole Bennett and Caleb Weston Goncalves. Jim was the brother of David C. Bennett and his wife Cynthia of Lansdowne, PA. He is survived by his sister in-law Barbara and her husband Leo Charles Waible, III of Northborough, and nephews Ian C. Bennett of Lansdowne PA, Andrew J. Bennett of Holliston MA, Leo C. Waible, IV of Singapore; a niece Meredith L. Waible of Gaithersburg MD; grand-nephews Warren Bennett of Holliston MA, Leo C. Waible, V and Eden K. Waible of Singapore; and grand-nieces Ella and Olive Bennett of Holliston, MA.
Mr. Bennett was a 1962 graduate of Lansdowne Aldan High School, Lansdowne, PA and then went on to earn his Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts at University of Delaware 1966; and Master of Electrical Engineering from University of Delaware in 1968. Jim was a member of the University of Delaware Marching Band and Symphonic Band, and was an inductee of IEEE and Tau Beta Pi honor societies.
In his youth, Jim earned the Eagle Scout Award from Troop 1 Lansdowne , PA. As scouting was very important to Jim, he went on to serve as Scoutmaster of BSA Troop 60 Sudbury, MA from 1969 – 1978, and earned the District Award of Merit with Algonquin Council Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow.
Jim was an avid Hiker achieving the 4,000 footer award climbing all New England mountains over 4,000 feet high. An avid Cruise Traveler since 1988, he saw many destinations.
Jim was a dedicated Financial Secretary at Sudbury United Methodist Church for 25 years.
Jim worked in the electronics field with Sylvania, GTE Government Systems, and General Dynamics for over 43 years until his retirement.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Visitation in the Chapel at Sudbury United Methodist Church on Saturday September 17, 2022 from 9-11 AM, prior to the Memorial Service in the Church Sanctuary at 11 AM.
