I loved Fred.  We were freshman housemates as undergraduates at Bates, and then sophomore roommates.  Very kind, understated, quiet.  I would have lunch with him at commons and not speak a word, which was perfect.

Fred was taken from me 41 years ago and the pane is steel as real today as it was then I miss my son Dad

I am so sorry to hear about Fred, he and I were friends through school and beyond, it was very nice to see him again a couple of years ago when he was having a yard sale at his mom's, I always liked Fred and would cover his back, there was a bunch of us who all would spend a great amount of time together, he was a great friend, he was always there to help, he will be missed more than people will know, I am so sorry for all his family and friends, he was and always will be a great ray of light for all. It is with great sadness that I hear about the loss of Fred.
Fred was a great colleague and a formidable inspiration to everybody in the department.  He taught me everything I know about stereotactic radiosurgery, and he was always willing to share his vast experience.

I met Fred when he was living in Sudbury.  He treated my wife and I to an amazing meal.  We were Facebook friends and I always marveled at his postings of his dinner creations. I am so very sorry for the loss of Dr. Fred Hacker. He was a remarkable person and I will miss him dearly. I worked with Fred at BWH in the physics division of Radiation Oncology for the past 4 years. Fred was an extremely important member of our clinical team who skillfully developed and participated in many diverse and complex treatment types. He was pivotal in our prostate and multi-site stereotactic radiosurgery service. Recently, Fred played an important role in the development of our new MRI guided radiation therapy program and our new service for treating heart arrythmias with radiation. Fred’s influence will be felt for years to come and will benefit countless patients. He leaves a professional legacy that his family and friends can be extremely proud of. I am deeply saddened to hear about my long time friend.  We met in Kindergarten and graduated high school together in ‘84.  I knew he would make us proud.  As far back as I can remember Fred said he was going to be a doctor.  He was so smart, dedicated and kind.  This is such a loss to the health community as well as his family and  friends.

I am shocked and deeply saddened by Fred's passing.  I knew Fred from the Harvard Medical Physics program where he was one of the mentors from the start of the program and, later,  a member of the executive committee. He taught stereotactic radiosurgery and a decade of physics residents benefitted from his expertise and love of teaching. He will be sorely missed by all the Harvard medical physics family. I am saddened to learn of Fred's sudden passing and wish to extend my deepest condolences to his family and friends.  Fred taught the upper level dosimetry course for the Suffolk University Medical Dosimetry Program for the last 5 years.  He was passionate about teaching and was dedicated to ensuring that students truly understood underlying concepts no matter how complex.  This semester he seamlessly transitioned the course to an online format and continued to be an excellent resource for our students.  Fred was a kind, humble, smart and giving individual and his presence will be sorely missed.

I am deeply shocked by the loss of Fred. When I joined the staff eight years ago I started in Fred’s stereotactic group. Fred was extremely helpful in bringing me up to speed. He had such an easygoing manner that always made me feel very comfortable in his group. Fred was also instrumental in helping bring stereotactic technology to our network clinical sites so it is more accessible to cancer patients. I still remember the last time I spoke to Fred. It was Friday Nov 20 between our shifts. We chatted briefly and wished each other a happy Thanksgiving – He was happy. Fred will be sorely missed and I send my deepest sympathies to his family.

Fred has taught the advanced planning courses for the Dosimetry program at Suffolk University, for which I was fortunate enough to have been one of his students. I loved his style of planning and the caring nature he had with all his students. He wanted to be sure that every student not just moved forward with the material but understood and could make future use of his knowledge. He also wanted to make sure we all knew he was a resource for any questions we might have now and beyond the program. His knowledge will live on in every student he has instructed along with many others that have also made use of that knowledge through techniques being passed along. I know I have passed along his style of stereotactic planning to quite a few dosimetrists at multiple oncology centers. Fred was absolutely an inspiration, a model member of the radiation oncology community, and will live on through his many contributions. He will be sorely missed though and my condolences to his family.

I am shocked and sad by Fred's passing.  I had the pleasure of working with Fred from his very beginnings at the JCRT when he was a resident.  Over the years we worked together on several projects and we built not only  a great work relationship but a friendship,   When I heard of Fred's passing it brought back so many found memories.  He was not only a great Medical Physicist but a dedicated person and a very kind soul .  He will be missed.  I send my deepest sympathies to his wife, children and parents.

I want to express my sincere thanks and gratitude for the gift of Fred in our lives.  Through his brilliance, giving and dedicated efforts he has changed the lives of so many afflicted with cancer and has brought them through his expertise and caring a better life.  I am privileged to have worked with Fred when he first arrived in the mid 1990's on developing better technical treatment approaches for men facing a diagnosis of prostate cancer and later I know Fred offered his talents and services to many of my colleagues who treat cancers in other sites such as the brain. We are so shocked by the sudden passing or our colleague and friend Dr Fred Hacker! We have worked with Fred for almost 25 years and he was part of our medical physics 'family' since 1995. Our radiation therapy department has benefited an awful lot by Fred's physics expertise through the years. His dedication to patient care, his work ethic, technical knowledge combined with his calm, stable and sweet demeanor are highly valued and will be sorely missed. We send our deepest condolences to his wife, children, parents and Family.

I am stunned and saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Hacker. He will be remembered as one of the kindest, sincerest, and most passionate professors that I have had the pleasure of knowing. Dr. Hacker exemplified what a caring, dedicated professor and physicist should be, and he will continue to serve as my role model.
