Obituary of Ronnie Ree Dameron
Ronnie R. Dameron, 83, departed this life on July 12, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Deborah F. Dameron, his children Deneen Dameron Brannock and husband, Boyce, Ronnie R. Dameron, Jr. and wife, Carrie, and Jason R. Dameron and wife, Katherine as well as grandchildren, Phoebe M. Brannock, Zachary A. Dameron and wife Jessica, Caleb Jordan (CJ) Dameron and friend Kayley Campbell, Addyson P. Dameron, Kohen R. Dameron, Leighton E. Dameron, Elin Grae Dameron, step-grandchildren Kayla Shifflett, Seth Shifflett, and great-step-grandchildren Alaia R. Shifflett and Haven R. Shifflett. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Joan Dameron, Jo Dameron, and Doris Dameron as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Born July 3, 1941, to the late Lawrence Randolph and Fannie Marie (Hall) Dameron in Stuarts Draft, Virginia, Ronnie is predeceased by his five brothers, Billy R. Dameron, Bobby R. Dameron, Ray Dameron, Calvin A. (Dick) Dameron, and twin, Donnie L. Dameron. In 1959, Ronnie graduated from Wilson Memorial High School and began his career as a mechanic for the DuPont plant in Waynesboro. He retired in 1993 and, never idle or complacent, he happily spent the next 31 years working in his shop and yard; traveling with his wife Debbie and close friends; serving his church and community; and caring for neighbors, friends, and family. Always quick to lend a hand, he was the great fixer and builder of all things: If you needed a tool for the job, he had it and gladly offered to help. Ronnie was an active member at Calvary United Methodist Church where he served in the Men’s Club and assisted with their food pantry. His community service included membership in local Moose and Jaycees chapters. He was also a member of the Stuarts Draft Sportsman Club and a member and president of the Stuarts Draft High School (SDHS) Quarterback Club. For more than 20 years, Ronnie ran the clock for Friday night football games and was named to the SDHS Hall of Fame for his dedicated service. His friendly childhood baseball rivalry with brother Donnie between his favorite team, the Dodgers, and Donnie’s favorite team, the Yankees, laid the foundation for coaching and refereeing little league baseball and later, as a devoted spectator on countless ball fields near and far. Ronnie’s pride in his children and grandchildren was evident in all they did. They could always count on him to show up for dance recitals, horse shows, school plays, and band concerts, as well as football and basketball games, volleyball matches, and baseball and softball games. He was their biggest fan at sporting events and enthusiastically cheered their teams, much to the grandchildren’s delight but occasionally to the chagrin of a few referees and umpires who did not always appreciate his enthusiasm. Ronnie was a loving son, husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. Through his quiet demeanor, he exemplified faith, love, generosity, and diligence for his children and all who knew him. His life was blessed with family and friends, all of whom will deeply miss his love, humor, and support. The family will hold a memorial service at Calvary United Methodist Church in Stuarts Draft on Monday, July 22, 2024, at 6 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the SDHS Athletic Boosters, 1028 Augusta Farms Road, Stuarts Draft, VA 24477 by cash or check; memo: Ronnie Dameron.
