He was born on July 13, 1951, a son of the late Arthur Stevenson and Rhoda (Layman) Johnson.
Daniel was a member of Stuarts Draft Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for several terms and sang in the church choir.
Daniel coached the women’s softball team and also played and coached the men’ softball team of Stuarts Draft Baptist Church. Both he and his wife played for the Hammer Time Softball Team in Staunton.
He was a graduate of the 1969 class of Wilson Memorial High School and retired from Augusta Petroleum after 30 years of service.
Daniel held several roles in the Augusta Baptist Association for the Disaster Relief team and was always willing to lend a helping hand in the community.
Daniel was a longtime volunteer with the Stuarts Draft Fire Department for 40 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Dorothy Driver, Ruby Johnson and Anna Dettwiller.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Yvonne (Michael) Johnson; sons, Anthony Johnson, Charles “Chuck Johnson, Keith Johnson; a brother, Samuel Johnson; sisters, Alice Falls, Ruth Duncan and husband Howard, Susan Pool and husband Jimmy; grandchildren, Jered Johnson, Benni Johnson, Brenlie Tabor, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 3. 2023 at Stuarts Draft Baptist Church with Pastor Billy Coffey officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Anthony Johnson, Charles “Chuck” Johnson, Keith Johnson, Keith Ramsey, Dale Michael and Mark Campbell.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Stuarts Draft Volunteer Fire Department.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the church.
The family wishes to thank the Piedmont Hospice Acute Care in Charlottesville, Shenandoah Rehabilitation and special friends Stephanie and Keith for everything they have done to help for both Daniel and his wife, Brenda.
