Husband of Patricia A. Gallivan and the late Audrey E. Gallivan. Father of four children; Michael Gallivan of Victor Idaho, Susan Hayward of North Kingstown Rhode Island, Julie Gallivan Parker of Hardwick Vermont and Christopher Gallivan, deceased. Stepfather of three children; George McLaughlin of Santa Ana California, Brian McLaughlin of Bangkok, Thailand and Geoffrey McLaughlin of Sedona Arizona. Grandfather of fourteen children, two of whom have predeceased him and Great Grandfather of six. Richard is survived by three siblings, Eileen Antaya of Duxbury Mass, James Francis Gallivan of Virginia, and Stephen Gallivan of Gainesville, Florida. Richard was born in Boston, Massachusetts on February 11, 1928, attended St. Thomas Aquinas Grammar School in Jamaica Plain, Technical High School in Boston and graduated from Boston University. He had a career in Public Education for 32 years, serving as Superintendent of Schools in both New Jersey and Rhode Island. Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947. He had a lifelong interest in Barbershop Quartet singing, an active, funny sense of humor and was fond of reading, writing and poetry. Richard remains an educator long after his demise, having donated his brain tissue to science. Funeral will take place on Saturday, November 3rd, 11:00am at St Christopher Catholic Church in Hobe Sound. Burial will take place in Rhode Island.
