Patricia Jones McCree

Patricia Jones McCree, age 84 of Hobe Sound, Florida passed away peacefully at home, on April 22, 2023, surrounded by family. Patsy was born on June 26, 1938 to Ford Hinchman Jones and Elizabeth Driggs Jones. Her early childhood years were spent in Englewood, New Jersey and later in New Canaan, Connecticut. During World War II, she and her family lived in Patuxent, Maryland and Norman, Oklahoma while her father was serving in the Navy.

She graduated high school from the Wheeler School in Providence, Rhode Island, attended Connecticut College and the Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City.

Patsy met her beloved husband of 64 years in 1958 at her cousin’s wedding and she and Donald Hanna McCree, Jr. were married on June 13, 1959. During their earliest years together when Don was in New London serving in the Navy, she was employed as an executive assistant at Webster’s Marina. They moved to Westchester County and settled in Chappaqua, NY in 1963 where they raised their three sons, spending two years in London in the mid 1970s. Patsy was active in local causes in Chappaqua and an avid tennis player and golfer at the Whippoorwill Club.

Upon her husband’s retirement, she and Don moved to Hobe Sound, Florida in the winter and Manchester, Vermont in the summer, where she was an active member of Ekwanok and Loblolly golf clubs. Patsy enjoyed tending to her beautiful Vermont garden, walking, going to a good farm stand, playing bridge, and hosting her entire family in Vermont and Florida. Patsy and Don enjoyed many years traveling and traversed all seven continents during her life.

A loyal, devoted spouse, her family was her biggest joy and she was a wonderful role model to them. Feisty, petite, strong minded and compassionate, she remained a devoted and fun loving friend. She was known for her down-to-earth nature, befriending people from all walks of life. She took great pride in her colorful and beautifully appointed home as a gathering place.

She was a loving partner, wonderful mother, supportive mother-in-law, and a proud “Nini” to her seven grandchildren. She and Don were members of Jupiter First Church in Florida.

She is survived by her devoted husband Don; her sons Donald (Gabby) of Rye, NY, Douglas (Heidi) of Tampa, Florida, and David (Robyn) of Bedford, NY, her grandchildren Lori Haffey (Patrick), Christopher McCree (Jessica Siegel), and Andrea McCree; Colin McCree (Katie) and Brendan McCree; Alexander McCree and Elizabeth McCree; three great grandchildren, Maddie and Lucy Haffey, and Logan McCree along with her loving nieces.

She is predeceased by her parents, and two sisters Nancy Tennstedt and Louise Beard.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a contribution in her memory to the Loblolly Community Foundation in Hobe Sound, or Jupiter Medical Center Foundation, Jupiter, Florida.
