Martha was born on January 8, 1933, as the ninthof twelve children to David and Orpha Judy in Everett, Pennsylvania. After moving to Washington, DC she met and married her husband of 57 years, Bancroft
Foley. Together they started a family, sharing years of memories with their daughter, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Martha and Banny enjoyed spending their time on the water and traveling the world together, having spent many happy summers in Estepona, Spain. She was a talented gardener, and master of all things domestic. Martha remained active her entire life playing tennis and logging miles a day on the treadmill well into her 80s. However, nothing brought her more joy than celebrating her family's accomplishments and never missing a graduation or dance competition.
As a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Mary’s Parish and St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Martha’s unwavering faith in God endowed her with tremendous peace in her journey to the next life. Martha passed immediately after having celebrated the holidays with her family, just one week shy of her ninetieth birthday.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Orpha Judy, as well as all eleven of her siblings. She is survived by her husband Bancroft, her daughter Anna, her grandchildren Genesis and Rowan, her great-granddaughter Lydia, her niece Deborah, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews all of whom were fortunate enough to have had their lives touched by her. Those who loved her will endlessly cherish her generous, thoughtful and loving spirit.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 18, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Stuart, Florida at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Mary’s Home of Stuart, Florida.
