Laurie was born in Hendersonville, NC in 1963 to Wallace and Ethel Case. She was a graduate of East Henderson High School, where she was a cheerleader and set school records in track. Laurie earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from UNC Asheville and later worked as the assistive technology instructor for North Carolina Division of Services for the Blind for 15 years. She took pride in her job and was fond of many of her clients she assisted throughout her time working there.
A devoted wife and mother, Laurie also cherished her role as a loving grandmother (affectionately known as “Nonnie”) to her two grandchildren. Renowned for cooking, she could often be found trying new recipes and making sure no one left her home or Auburn football tailgates hungry. Laurie loved the beach and fishing with her husband, traveling to tropical destinations, camping outdoors and exploring different restaurants. She found great joy in making Florida her new home after living in North Carolina for 57 years, having the opportunity to spend precious time with her husband, daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren each day.
Laurie inspired those around her through her unwavering faith in Jesus, often sharing her testimony and profound love for her Savior. She had a servant’s heart, and her kindness brought her lifelong friendships and left those she met feeling touched by her warm spirit.
Laurie is survived by her beloved husband of 29 years, Terry Layne; her daughter, Sarah Reif and husband, Ryan; grandchildren, Liam and Nora; her mother, Ethel “Betty” Case; her three brothers, Kevin Case; Roger Case and his wife, Brenda (nephew, Andrew and niece, Hannah); Eric Case and his wife, Anna. She is preceded in death by her father, Wallace Case, and her first husband, Ray Blackstock.
A service will be held on March 2 at 1 p.m. at Biltmore Church - Hendersonville Campus, located at 103 Education Drive, Flat Rock, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Treasure Coast Hospice Foundation.
Laurie will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
