Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Mrs. Phillips had previously lived in Somers, Connecticut before relocating to the Stuart area 20 years ago.
She was a writer and started her career as a columnist for the Enfield Press. Mrs. Phillips went on to become a copywriter for Connecticut General before starting her own freelance writing business.
Mrs. Phillips was heavily involved in civic and church activities. She was the president of the Somers Women’s Club, as well as the President of the Somers Visiting Nurses Association. Mrs. Phillips was also a founding member of the Village Players and the co-chair of the Somers Republican Town Committee.
Mrs. Phillip’s was a member of the Somers Congregational Church where she sang in the choir with her husband, Harold, for 30 years.
She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Karen Nelson of Stuart, Florida; daughter, Cynthia Johnson (Jerry) of Mattapoisett,
MA; daughter, Diane McBroome (Mick) of Plainfield, CT; grandchildren, Megan and Kerry McBroome, Sarah and Graeme Clark, Anne and Emily Johnson, and Ian and John Nelson; and three great grandchildren, Jayden and Daisy Adams, and Xavier Nelson.
Mrs. Phillips was predeceased by her husband, Harold A. Phillips and her daughter, Barbara Clark.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Stuart Congregational Church.
