Vincent is survived by his daughters Mary Ann (Altomonte) Robin of Weston FL and Helen Marie Altomonte of Forest Hill MD and Boca Raton FL; his brother Francis Altomonte of Stony Point NY; his grandchildren Zachary, Matthew and Chloe Robin of Weston FL; his sons-in-law, Dr. Jeffrey Robin and George Jazombek; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Helen Marie (Stanko) Altomonte, his sister Antoinette (Altomonte) Dixon, his brother John Altomonte, and his companion Jacqueline Hughes.
Vincent was born on February 10, 1931 in Haverstraw NY to parents John and Catherine Altomonte. He lived in Haverstraw until moving to Stony Point NY after his marriage to Helen Marie Stanko in 1952. Vincent proudly served his Country in the U.S. Army from where he was a Communications Specialist, receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1954. He initially wanted to pursue a civilian career in Radio Communications but soon after returning to Stony Point he realized his true calling was in building and general contracting. Vincent founded the North Rockland Construction and Excavating Company and it quickly grew to one of the largest building companies in Rockland County. His company developed and built several residential communities and commercial properties throughout the County. Additionally, Vincent was the designer/builder/operator of the Riverside Indoor Tennis and Boat Club on the Hudson River in Stony Point. Vincent’s contracting legacy lives on in the thousands of homes that he designed and built throughout Rockland County.
Vincent lived in Stony Point until relocating full-time to the Mission Bay community of Boca Raton FL in 2004. In addition to being a builder, developer and general contractor, he was a master carpenter and woodworker, a passion that he maintained through his entire retirement. At his home in Boca Raton, Vincent transformed his garage into a professional-level woodworking shop in which he turned out spectacular small and large-scale wood projects for not only his own home, but for those of his family and friends. During their early lives, his grandchildren grew up with swingsets, playhouses, desk units and even vehicle facsimiles that Vincent lovingly built for them.
More than his professional and business success, Vincent’s true passion was his family. He was the quintessential family patriarch – a devoted husband who lovingly cared for his wife and other family members even through difficult illnesses; a dedicated father who totally supported his daughters and their eventual families; and, a doting grandfather to his 3 grandchildren – all of whom acknowledge Vincent’s values and guidance as major influences on their lives. Although a true “man of few words”, Vincent’s actions, hard work and dedication to perfection uniformly left major impressions on family, friends and even acquaintances.
Vincent will be sorely missed, but forever remembered, by all of his family and friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday May 1, 2019 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in Stony Point, NY.
Mass of a Christian Burial will be held on Thursday May 2, 2019 at 10am at Immaculate Conception Church in Stony Point NY followed by burial at St. Peters Cemetery in Haverstraw NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Heart Association to advance cardiac research.
