Maria Pia Bongiardina, 81, of Stony Point, NY, passed away on February 29th, 2024, surrounded by her family. Born on January 2nd, 1943, in Firenze, Italy, Maria was the daughter of Artemio and Carmela (Popolano) Peruzzi. She immigrated to the United States with her mother and sister as a teenager, eventually becoming a US citizen in 1962. Maria resided in Brooklyn, where she met Franco, the love of her life. They married in 1964 and raised three children in Stony Point, NY.
Maria was a remarkable, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a passion for gardening, reading, and listening to Andrea Bocelli. Known for her impeccable taste in decorating and fashion, Maria always presented herself with elegance.
She is survived by her husband, Franco, and their three children: Theresa, Marisa, and Vincent (Stacie). Maria is also survived by her sister, Connie Palazzotto. She was a cherished grandmother to Kayla (Phillip), Dominick, Anthony, John, Julianna, Joseph, and Tyler, as well as a loving great-grandmother to Paxton. Maria is predeceased by her parents.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5th, from 4-8 pm at Higgins Funeral Home in Stony Point, NY. A funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, March 6th, at 11 am at Immaculate Conception Church in Stony Point, NY, followed by burial at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Maria's favorite charity, St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
