John G. Griffin

John G. Griffin, devoted husband and loving father passed away peacefully on July 19, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. John was born on February 24, 1938 to James and Agnes (Whelan) Griffin. John was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, during which he participated in Operation Deep Freeze III in Antarctica. Upon separation from the Air Force John served as a police officer with the NYPD, prior to becoming a firefighter with the FDNY. John worked in Engine 71/ Ladder 55 and Engine 89/ Ladder 50. John retired in 1994 as a lieutenant. In retirement John was a founding member and first president of Stony Point Senior Club II.

John is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Loretta. Children John (Jessica), James, Peggy (Billy) and Brian (Nicole). He is also survived by his sister Aggie (Anthony) and his sister in law Peggy and Eileen. John was especially loved by his grandchildren; Meghan, Stephen, Colin, Griffin, William, Kailey, Hannah, Ashley, John. And several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Stephen, brothers James, Fr. Pat, MM and his sister Mary.

Family will receive friends on Monday, July 22, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm; at Michael J Higgins Funeral Home in Stony Point. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 23, at 10am, at Immaculate Conception Church in Stony Point. Followed by interment at Ascension Cemetery, Chestnut Ridge, NY.
