His beloved wife of 73 years, Jeannine; his children, Leslie Qazilbash (Dabeer), Lorraine Stewart (Mike), Lynda Gaudiuso (Frank), Leila Gosselin, Peter Gosselin (Margaret), Michael Gosselin (Kim); 13 grandchildren (Nicole pre-deceased in November 2019) and 14 great grandchildren will keep his memories and stories alive!
Peter was born May 5, 1928, in Athabasca, Alberta. His parents were Ovide and Adelina and he had three sisters, Valerie, Jeannine, Therese and two brothers, Raymond and Remi. Peter left home early in life and after a brief stint working on a rail gang for the CNR, he joined the Navy. The Navy means water, so he was posted to Victoria where, on a blind date in 1948, he met Jeannine Tomlinson and that was the start of his Family. Peter had an amazing life with Jeannine living in many places: Victoria, where the girls were born; Montreal; Halifax, where the boys were born; Churchill, Inuvik, back to Alberta in the early 70s, off to BC in the early 80s and back to Alberta in 2010.
Peter had a rewarding career spanning 27 years in the Navy, from Cook to Captain and made many friends along the way. After the Navy he lived on a small farm south of Stony Plain and managed a bulk fuel station in Stony Plain where he became known to many in the area. Peter was a lifelong member of the Legion and in his retirement in B.C., he worked tirelessly with Branch 88 in Maple Ridge volunteering his time to help seniors. In all his dealings throughout his career and in his volunteer roles in retirement, you could best describe him as honest, determined, and tough but always fair.
Dad’s greatest love was his family, and he would fiercely defend each and every one of them. Fishing and camping were his most favourite activities and he loved to do this with the family whenever and wherever he could. We will always keep a chair for you at our campfires! You were loved. You will be remembered. You are fondly missed.
Sincere thanks to the staff at Lewis Estates Retirement Residence in Edmonton and the Youville Home in St. Albert, where Peter lived since 2021, for your kindness, compassion and patience with ‘Joe’.
