Jeannine’s smile and sparkling blue eyes will be missed by her six children and their families: Leslie (Dabeer) Qazilbash; Lorraine (Mike) Stewart; Lynda (Frank) Gaudiuso; Leila Gosselin; Peter (Margaret) Gosselin; Michael (Kim) Gosselin; her 13 grandchildren (Nicole predeceased in November 2019); 16 great-grandchildren and numerous relatives and friends who will keep her legacy alive.
Jeannine was born April 17, 1929 in Stettler Alberta. Her parents were Harry and Aileen Tomlinson (VanKleeck), and she had one brother Lowell, and a sister, Sara (Hasenbacher). Jeannine lived with her parents in Alberta until 1947 and then moved to Vancouver Island where she met her future husband, Peter Gosselin on a blind date in Victoria. They were married in July of 1948. Jeannine had an amazing life with Peter, living in many places: Victoria, where the four girls were born; Montreal; Halifax, where the two boys were born; Churchill; Inuvik; Alberta in the early 70s; BC in the early 80s; and back to Alberta in 2010. Peter pre-deceased Jeannine on November 23, 2021, and she has missed him dearly since then – they were soul-mates for 74 years.
Jeannine wore many hats throughout her working life: laborer in a plywood mill (Port Alberni), waitress (Victoria), telephone operator (Churchill), and started her career in banking at the CIBC in Inuvik and later in Stony Plain. She finished her career as Office Manager at the Stony Plain Credit Union. Her retirement years with Peter were filled with camping, fishing, travel, and spending time with family and friends.
Jeannine loved her family and always supported them with common sense, optimism, generosity and great advice, ‘It will never be seen on a trotting horse, anyway!' Jeannine volunteered at many events and her pride, dedication and commitment to her community and her church was evident throughout her life. She was a strong woman who was determined to make life better for others in any way she could.
We forever will remember Jeannine’s kind heart, open mind and generosity of thoughts and actions. Please join us, as you are able, for Jeannine’s funeral on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 11:00 am at Stony Plain United Church, 5012 51 Ave, Stony Plain, AB, T7Z 1C2.
Rest at peace, Jeannine. We take such comfort knowing that you are back with Peter.
