Edwin Fredrick Ulmer was born in Stony Plain on October 24, 1931, the son of Carl L. Ulmer and Bertha (Frank) Ulmer. He was received by our Lord through Holy Baptism on October 29, 1931. On April 14, 1946, he re-affirmed his Christian faith through the Rite of Confirmation and continued to worship at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Stony Plain, Alberta. Edwin attended St. Matthew Lutheran School from grade one through nine where his faith was further strengthened and where he was prepared not only for life but also for service to God and his Church. After his high school education at Stony Plain Composite High School, he farmed with his father. In 1954, Edwin took over the family farm and farmed with his mother until 1989. Edwin married Adele Klatt on June 10, 1989. He enjoyed camping, golfing, horseshoes and playing pool and cards with family and friends. In 2011, Edwin and Adele moved to Stony Plain where he resided, until his passing.
As a lifetime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Edwin faithfully served his Lord and Church on the board of Trustees, Board of Elders and Finance Committee. Edwin was involved in originating the Alberta rural and urban natural gas movement and served on the Board of Directors for West Parkland Gas Coop Ltd for 25 years.
He leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife Adele; sons Dwayne and Darcy; grandchildren Sydney (Brett), Ryan and Kaitlyn (Trevor); great-grandson Parker; nephews Brad, Wesley (Cynthia, children Chelsea (Tanner), Tyson (Jess) and extended family.
Edwin was predeceased by his father Carl in 1954; mother Bertha in 2004; sister Evelyn in 2002 and his brother-in-law Bill Hohnstein in 2013.
