Joyce grew up in rural Saskatchewan, was a child growing up in the depression years, joined the Women's Army Corp at 19 and was at Canadian Army Headquarters in London, England during WWII. When she returned home she attended Normal School in Saskatoon and taught in rural one roomed schools, Wilson Lake and Monarch in Sask. She married Leslie and started farming. Joyce was always a busy person. She sewed beautiful clothing and quilts, baked the best buns, pies, cakes and desserts, grew enormous gardens, supported all community events and groups, raised chickens and ducks, helped with all aspects of farming and still had time to raise and guide her 4 children.
Joyce is survived by her children Ross (Lynda), Marjorie (Ray), Brian (Mary) and Sandra (Brian). She also leaves to cherish her memory, her brother Ross (Adele), 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and many close nieces and nephews.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Leslie, her parents Walter and Edith Arthur, her sisters and their husbands Kay (George) Weatherby and Thelma (Allan) Riach, also Leslie’s parents Jack and Florrie Powell and brother Ken (Mildred) Powell.
The family wish to thank the care givers at Westview Health Centre, Stony Plain and Foyer Lacombe, St. Albert for their kindness in her final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2022 - 2 PM at the Parkland Community Hall, 60 Parkland Gate Rd, Spruce Grove, AB T7X 3N5
