Rob passed away unexpectedly at home on June 13, 2022. As the first child of Robert and Evelyn Wooton he was named Robyn, (which he hated). He grew up in Los Gatos and received a scholarship to UOP where he lettered in swimming and water polo and was a proud member of Omega Phi Alpha/DU.
Upon graduation, he taught and coached at Tokay High before working for Stockton Savings Bank. He went on to work in real estate development serving as President of John Laing Homes, Northern California. He continued coaching water polo and also served on boards for St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, Boys and Girls Club, and Pacific Athletic Foundation among many others. In pre-retirement he was President of Lodi Memorial Hospital Foundation and strove to start a foundation for San Joaquin General Hospital.
Rob is survived by his wife, Cathy, his daughters Allison (Mark) Lillie, Megan (Brad) Van Tassel, his former wife Jody, five grandchildren, Annikah, Kailah, Avah, Emry and Carter, two brothers Dan and Matt and his sister Cathé, as well as extended family.
Rob was dedicated to youth and the health of local communities. He took pride in the accomplishments of the many he taught and coached as well as friends he made, frequently telling people how proud he was of them. He loved to swim, travel, laugh and share stories with virtually anyone - as a result, no one was a stranger to Rob. His encouragement, laughter and love will be missed by those who knew him, including the many young people whose lives he changed, friends among the Elkhorn Dawn Patrol group and the rich of array of family and extended family.
A service will be held on Friday, July 22 at 2pm at University of the Pacific's Morris Chapel with a reception to follow. Please wear any shade of blue, Rob's favorite color.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Rob may be made online to women’s or men’s water polo at UOP: https://bit.ly/3yODxh1. Or by mail: University of the Pacific, Advancement Services, 3601 Pacific Ave, Stockton, CA 95211. Memories may also be shared online via DeYoung Memorial Chapel.
