Dick was born June 15, 1931 to Joseph and Mary Halligan in Moorland, Iowa. He graduated from Corpus Christi High School and joined the National Guard. During his service, he married his high school sweetheart, Maureen Sweeney. Together they had their 3 incredible children: Glen, Brian and Julie.
In 1960, they moved to California to be closer to family. Dick, along with his siblings, was a religious man, going to church every Sunday, while he still could. He raised his children the same way, sending them to Catholic schools through High School. Being a man of many talents, Dick chose to hone his craft in the world of construction. In 1974, he and his sons established Halligan Construction. After a successful career, he hung up his nail bags to retire and pursue his true passions in life: Family, Golf, Coco and the “Coffee Crew”.
Dick opened Caddy Shack Golf Shop in the early 90’s. Nothing made his heart more content than fixing, re-gripping and customizing clubs. As friends stopped by on a daily basis for a cold beer and one of Dick’s FAMOUS stories, they were gleefully greeted by one beautiful brown poodle named Coco. From the moment Dick, met Coco, she stole his heart and gave him the best 2nd act anyone could have ever imagined.
With his vision quickly failing, Dick turned the mourning of his golf buddy memories into coffee crew memories. No longer able to hit the fairway, he and Coco parked the cart at Starbucks. It was there he was able to continue his gift of storytelling.
Dick’s family, friends, golf buddies and coffee crew will miss his stories and will make sure to repeat them for future generations.
