Mary Ann was the only child of Brig, Gen. Leonard R. Boyd and Marian Barber Boyd. She moved frequently in her childhood years, but settled in California to graduate from McClatchy High School in 1951. Her home for the next 4 years was UC Berkeley, where she earned her teaching credential. She continued to learn throughout her life, and earned her master’s degree from University of Pacific in education.
In 1955, she married Jim Mahoney, and together they raised four children.
During her teaching career of over 35 years, she taught students at Pulliam School and then taught for several decades at Victory School in Stockton. Many of her students and their parents became life-long friends of hers.
After retiring, she traveled to many US states, and several countries abroad.
She passed peacefully from this life, thanks to the kindness and care of the staff at O'Connor Woods, and Hospice of San Joaquin. Mary Ann is survived by Eileen Mahoney of Elk Grove, Peggy Myers of Oakhurst, and Sean Mahoney of Clovis. She is predeceased in death by her oldest son, James Kevin Mahoney Jr., and her ex-husband Jim Mahoney. She leaves 10 loving grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be held at O'Connor Woods Chapel, 3400 Wagner Heights Rd, at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug 20, 2022. She requested a ceilidh (kay-lee) party to celebrate her life. She would be honored if friends and family wore tartans, Hawaiian shirts or butterflies to symbolize her favorite things.
In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to St. Mary’s Chapel, St. Luke’s youth group, Girl Scouts Heart of Central California, Boy Scouts or the House of Boyd Society. Condolences can be sent to www.deyoungshorelinechapel.com
