Marlene was born January 31, 1940 at San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp, California. She was the daughter of Elvera Mary Leon and Joseph Edward Morones. She was raised in Stockton, California and spent 80 years of her life in Stockton. She passed away in the loving arms of her husband, Gene, when called by Our Lord early on Sunday morning, November 5, 2023.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Neri, their three sons, Mark (Tracy), Christopher (Shellie), Philip (Gina) and, four grandchildren, Joshua, Taylor, Enzo, and Jordan Neri. Marlene’s youngest sibling, Barbara Woods (Ed) predeceased her in December 1997. Her remaining sister, Frances Spence (Bill) lives in Rocklin, California.
Marlene will be remembered by all as a loving, empathetic, and caring person. To her family she’ll be continually loved and remembered as the glue that held her family together, the actual heart and driving force of the Marlene and Gene Neri family. From the loving daughter that brought groceries home to her parents when she first worked as a teenager to the young girl that found a deep devotion to her Christian heritage at St. Gertrude parochial grammar school and St. Mary’s High School in Stockton, California. She’ll be deeply missed. Shortly after her 17th birthday in February of 1957 she met her life partner that started a journey that lasted in life for sixty-six and a half years, 61 of which were in matrimony. With the blessing of three sons, she dedicated her life to their guidance and nurturing. She continued that care with her four grandchildren literally assuming and understanding their roles in life at all of their age levels. She maintained that level of insight and understanding with all of her family especially her husband, Gene. The spiritual and material successes blessed upon her spouse were generated by her unselfish and loving soul. At 83 years old and facing death her last request to her husband, Gene was “Remember Honey, please take care of the boys” and God recalled his one special Angel, Marlene Irene (Morones) Neri.
The family respectfully requests that donations of any kind be made in Memory of Marlene I. Neri to Hospice of San Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA 95204 or a charity of your choice.
