Leslie graduated from Elgin High School in 1965. He received his Associate of Arts degree from Bismarck Junior College then attended the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks studying wildlife management and worked at Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge as an undergraduate. In 1969, he moved to Stockton, CA, and married Peggy Degenstein on June 20, 1972, his wife of 48 years. They had two sons, Jason Ryan Schock and Shawn Michael (Traci Mandras) Schock and his two grandsons, Maxwell Alexander and Brandon Michael Schock.
He was a Machinist at Johns Manville for 11 years. He was later employed at the University of Pacific doing equipment repair, carpentry, construction and all of the University’s upholstery needs. He medically retired in 2009
He is survived by two brothers Marvin (Dianne) Schock and Eugene (Cathie) Schock and six sisters LuElla (Howard) Kautz, Betty (Clyde-deceased) Mallory, Jan Emineth, Karen (Dennis) Sabin, JoAnn (Kirby) Schatz and Brenda (Perry) Laub.
Les loved his family and friends. His passions were fishing, and gardening – sharing his garden produce with family, friends, and neighbors. He loved family reunions and traveling. He had a love of nature and being outdoors. He cared for everyone he met, and people who knew him loved him. He will be greatly missed.
In light of the current pandemic. The family is planning on a memorial BBQ in September(2020) in Stockton. In addition a Celebration of Life will be held in September (2021) with his family and Friends in North Dakota.
