Johnny Kai Lew was born on September 21, 1936, in China, Kwantung Province, Toi Sun County, Lung Tuck Village. He passed away on Nov. 11, 2015, at St. Joseph's Medical Center at the age of 79. He immigrated to the United States in October, 1949 and resided in Stockton, California with his parents, Narng and Gee Ming Lau. In 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Tom. Soon after, he started work at AeroJet, in Sacramento. In 1962, he joined Delta Switchboard in Stockton, as a design engineer. After a long and prosperous career in engineering, he retired in 1998. After retirement, he loved being with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling and playing Mah Jong. Johnny’s strong passion for preserving his cultural heritage and tradition was evident in his active involvement in the Chinese Community of Stockton. He was the past president and senior advisor for the Lung Kong Tin Yee Family Association of Stockton, and Senior Advisor for the Pan American Lung Kong Tin Yee Association. He also founded and held many leadership positions with the Chinese Youth Club of Stockton over the past 50 years. Johnny is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bonnie, three children: Christine and husband, Bill Hinderman, Michael Lew, Cynthia and husband, Raymond Ng, three grandchildren: Michael, Julia and Derek, brother, Norman Lew in addition to many relatives and close friends. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather and a loyal brother and friend. He will be greatly missed. Visitation and viewing will be on Saturday, November 21, 2015 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Both will be held at DeYoung Shoreline Chapel, 7676 Shoreline Drive in Stockton.
