Gerald Edward West I, age 78 of Stockton passed away at his home on the morning of Monday, June 30, 2014. He was born on November 10, 1935 in Sophia, West Virginia to the late Ralph Edward West and the late Sylvia Karnes West. He is survived by his children Gloria Moffet (Ron) of Stockton, Sally Thompson (Scott) of Stockton and Gerald West II (Karen) of Manteca; siblings Mercedes Rudisill of Winston-Salem, NC, Ralph West (Judi) of Tullahoma, TN, Deanna Stilwell (George) of Madison, TN and Freda Huffman of Hendersonville, TN; step-children Travis Turner of Antioch, Kenneth Turner (Vicky) of Rapid City, SD and Terry Turner (Stephanie) of Valley Springs. He had 31 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ella West, his second wife Jackie West, daughter Cynthia Romero, granddaughter Tonya Romero and grandson Shaun Thompson.
Gerald served in the United States Air Force and also retired from the County of San Joaquin after 27 years of employment, where he started out driving an ambulance for San Joaquin General Hospital and then transferred to the Department of Public Works. Gerald was an avid fan of Nascar and was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles for many years. He served on the retirement Committee for the County of San Joaquin during the 1980’s. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 3 in the chapel of Frisbie-Warren & Carroll Mortuary from 3-7 pm, Funeral Services will be on Saturday, July 5 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 800 Brookside Rd., and a Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, July 9 at 1:00 pm at the Stockton Rural Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made in Gerald’s name to the Hospice of San Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Ave., Stockton, CA 95204.
